3 Reasons Why Modular Signal Tower Lights Are Preferred Over Conventional Ones

Modularity is all the rage today. Modular houses, modular construction, modular planes, modular everything.

Recently, manufacturers have also been developing modular signal tower lights (or stack lights).

But they have been developed not just to join the modular bandwagon. Modular tower lights bring new features and real advantages as compared to conventional ones.

We have put together this short guide to help you understand why.

1. Customised Functionality & Application

Most prominently, modular tower lights offer you the option of creating the tower light to your desired specifications.

No longer do you have to compare the various manufacturers’ standard production tower lights, understand their specs, and judge which one is best suited for your application.

Just create your own!

These are just some of the customisation you can configure:

  • Layers: 1 Layer, 2 Layer, 3 Layer, 4 Layer , 5 Layers
  • Colours: Red, Green, Amber, Blue, White
  • Diameter: 50mm, 70mm
  • Base: Direct Mount, Pole
  • Light Type: Steady, Flashing, Strobe, Rotating
  • Sound Types: Buzzer, Warning Sound, Warning Melody, Warning Alarm
  • Connection: USB, Wi-Fi, Wired
  • Voltage:  12V, 24V, 110V, 220V

Based on these factors alone, there are a large number of configurations you can choose.

Additionally, these modular tower lights are specifically designed to be suitable for a wide range of environments. For instance, our Q-Light QT50L Modular Tower Light without buzzer is IP65 rated, making it suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

2) Reduce Maintenance Time

To allow for intuitive and easy assembly, each module is made up of connectors that allow it to be easily added or removed. Little hard-wiring is required for modular tower lights to work.

This feature allows any user, with or without technical knowledge, to remove, change or add any module they desire.

3) Reduce Replacement Costs

We recently had a customer, a contractor, who purchased a 2-Layer Red-Green QT70 Modular Tower Light.

However, after installation, his customer feedbacked that they instead required a Red-Amber Tower Light.

Remembering we told him that the modules can be easily replaced, he simply came back and bought from us the amber module and did the replacement himself.

This flexibility means that any user no longer has to worry about replacing the entire tower light should a mistake in purchasing be made.

Similarly, in the unlikely event that one of the modules malfunctions, you can easily replace that particular module and have a well-functioning tower light again.

Disadvantage

Despite their many advantages, it is also important to consider their disadvantages when making your purchasing decision.

As modular tower lights have only been recently introduced, the demand for it and subsequently the quantity supplied is considerably lower than the conventional tower lights.

This means that modular tower lights often do not achieve the substantial economies of scale conventional tower lights enjoy and are currently slightly more expensive.

Verdict

For some of our customers, the convenience and flexibility modularity brings justifies the increased cost.

Others may instead find that conventional tower lights, though limited in function, are enough to meet their requirements.

It is thus best for you to understand the specifications that is required of your tower light and understand the relevant costs to judge which is the right tower light for you.

All the best in finding your tower light :)
